Stabilizing a failing production environment, then building the IT function behind it

A manufacturing client was losing production to repeat outages. I assessed the whole estate, replaced the infrastructure that needed replacing, and then built the IT department structure that keeps it stable: operating cadence, project tracker, and a disaster recovery plan.

Role
Owned the assessment, the remediation, and the operating model
Focus
Infrastructure, IT operations, Disaster recovery, Client leadership

Outcomes

  • Built the client's IT department structure from the ground up, including a weekly operational cadence and a full project tracker
  • Authored the client's IT Disaster Recovery Plan

The problem

A manufacturing client was suffering repeated production downtime. Each outage was being handled as its own incident, which meant the symptoms were treated and the pattern was not. There was no IT function on the client side to hold the thread between them.

What I did

I assessed the entire IT environment rather than the failing components, and replaced the infrastructure that the assessment showed was the actual constraint. That part was diagnosis and procurement.

The more durable part was structural. I built the client's IT department structure from the ground up: a weekly operational cadence so issues surface before they become outages, a full project tracker so work is visible and sequenced, and a formal IT Disaster Recovery Plan so the next failure has a documented response rather than an improvised one.
